No — kitesurfing relies on technique, not brute strength.

🪂 Lucas, the founder of Kite Mecca, is one of the few instructors certified to teach Sitkiting — a form of kitesurfing designed for wheelchair users.
❓ Is learning kitesurfing dangerous?
With proper coaching and light conditions – no. Kitesurfing is extremely safe when taught the right way.
✅ Kite Beach El Portillo has one of the best conditions in the world to learn fast and safe. Up to this – we use radio helmets, modern (ISO certified) equipment, and go at your pace — safety always comes first.

Here’s how we turn total beginners into confident, independent riders — step by step, safely and efficiently.
Phase 1: On The Beach
💡 Goal: Build solid foundations and safety awareness before touching the water.
1a. Understanding Wind & Weather
You’ll learn how to read wind direction, and recognize safe vs. unsafe conditions.
1b. Setting Up the Equipment
We’ll teach you how to rig a kite, handle lines, and check everything for safety. ➡️ We use short flying lines and stable beginner-friendly kites to maximize safety and control.
1c. Safety Systems
You’ll practice activating safety systems — on land, not in panic. ➡️ We use industry-leading safety systems (ISO-certified quick releases).
1d. Flying the Kite on Land
Using short lines (to reduce power and increase safety), you’ll practice controlling the kite: steering, stopping, and understanding the wind window.
Phase 2: Into The Water - Body Dragging
💡 Goal: Control the kite while moving through water without a board.
2a. Downwind Dragging
You’ll master doing power strokes – the most important element to stand up on the board.
2b. Upwind Dragging & Board Recovery
You’ll learn to drag yourself against the wind, back to your board — a critical skill for independent riding.

Phase 3: Water Starts and Riding
💡 Goal: Combine kite, board and body balance to start rid
3a. How to Put the Board on Your Feet
Learn the body position and kite control to easily put the board on your feet while in the water.
3b. Water Starts
The most demanding part! Use the power strokes while controlling the board and the body to stand up on the board.
3c. Riding Both Directions
You’ll get up on the board and ride your first meters, first one direction, then both.
Phase 4: Independence
💡 Goal: Ride safely on your own.
✅ Using Quick Release and doing self-rescue in deep water.
✅Riding confidently both directions.
✅Launching and landing with assistance.
✅ Understanding basics of Right of Way on the water.
